Registered tricycles in Pasig City and Pateros may now drive passengers to and from the city and municipality starting Sunday, April 17, the Pasig City local government announced on Wednesday, April 13.
This is in accordance with the memorandum of agreement (MOA) that was signed by Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III on Monday, April 11.
The agreement will be implemented in order to make travel more convenient for residents of either Pateros or Pasig City who are frequent visitors or are working in the areas.
The agreement was made for the benefit of the tricycle drivers operating in both areas by enabling more expansive services to passengers.
Tricycles may pick up passengers from Pasig in any area in the city, and may be dropped-off in any area in Pateros.
Passengers from Pateros may be picked up by tricycles at any part of the municipality.
However, tricycle rides coming from Pateros may only bring passengers to the following drop-off points in Pasig City: Barangay Buting, the Immaculate Concepcion Cathedral, Barangay Kalawaan, the Pasig Mega Market, and the Meralco branch located at Barangay Sagad.
Tricycle drivers who will be allowed to conduct this operation must have a valid franchise granted the local governments of Pasig or Pateros, a valid certificate of registration of the tricycle from the Land Transportation Office (LTO), and a driver's license issued to the driver of the tricycle from the LTO.
Tricycles are only allowed to pick up passengers within the areas that their respective franchises are registered to.
Along with the required documents, private chartered tricycles must also have a valid tricycle service permit issued by either the city or the municipal government.
According to the MOA, the operation will conduct a two month dry-run, with a succeeding evaluation after the first two weeks.
