Manila Archbishop Jose Cardinal Advincula on Thursday, April 14, asked the faithful to pray for the victims of tropical depression 'Agaton' in the Visayas.

"Our Mass today is also in solidarity with those affected by 'Agaton' in the Visayas," he said during the Chrism Mass held at the Manila Cathedral.

"Let us also remember them in our prayers," he added.

The Chrism Mass is traditionally celebrated every Holy Thursday to signify the priest’s unity with their bishop.

The occasion also usually serves as the time when priests renew their commitment to priestly service.

It is also the time when the prelate blesses the Chrism or holy oil which will be used in anointing for the sacraments of baptism, confirmation, holy order and the sick.

In his homily, Advincula thanked the Manila clergy for their sacrifices during the Covid-19 pandemic.

"I personally thank you for exercising discernment, creativity, and courage in the ministry amid the drastic changes in the world today," he said.

"I particularly appreciate the sacrifice that you had to make during the pandemic. You have dared for newness for the sake of faithfulness to the mission...God is blessing your labors and He makes them bear fruits in our people," added Advincula.

During the Mass, the Cardinal also asked those present to pray for their priests.

"Pray for your priests that the Lordmay pour out His gifts abundantly upon them and keep them faithful as ministers of Christ, the high priest, so that they may lead you to Him who is the source of salvation," Advincula said.

Meanwhile, the collection during the Evening Mass of the Lord's Supper at the Cathedral which was also presided over by the Cardinal was also allotted to "Agaton" victims in Samar, Leyte and Capiz.

It was in the said Mass that Advincula washed the feet of 12 persons who represent the various sectors that play a crucial role in next month’s elections. Among them from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
