Rains persist over several areas due to LPA

The low pressure area (LPA), formerly tropical depression Agaton, will continue to bring rains over Visayas, and parts of southern Luzon and Mindanao in the next 24 hours, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Wednesday, April 13.

As of 3 a.m., the LPA was estimated at 65 kilometers (km) southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar.

Weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio said the LPA will continue to linger in the next few hours.

But Aurelio said the weather disturbance is expected to move gradually towards typhoon Malakas (formerly Basyang) and merge with the cyclone in the coming days.

Typhoon Malakas was estimated at 1,535 km east of Baler, Aurora, or outside the Philippine area of responsibility.

Aurelio said, in the next 24 hours, the LPA is still expected to affect most parts of the country and bring cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms over Masbate, Sorsogon, and Eastern Visayas.

Marinduque, Romblon, Quezon, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, the rest of Bicol Region, and the rest of Visayas will also have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

PAGASA continued to warn the public to stay vigilant against possible flash floods or landslides because of the occurrence of moderate to occasional heavy rains.

Meanwhile, localized thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA also warned against possible flash floods or landslides that may occur during severe thunderstorms.
