The Quezon City Jail Male Dormitory (QCJMD) on Tuesday, April 12, held the “Pabasa ng Pasyon” as part of its activities for the Holy Week where a total of 416 persons deprived of liberty (PDL) participated.
The “Pabasa ng Pasyon” or “Pabasa” is an old Filipino Catholic tradition during the Holy Week that involves the uninterrupted chanting of the “Pasyon” or Passion of Christ as a reminder for the faithful to repent for their sins while reflecting on the life of Jesus Christ, according to cbcpnews.net.
According to the QCJMD, the activity started on Tuesday and is expected to end before Good Friday.
The PDLs who joined were divided into 16 groups with around 20 members each that will take turns in leading the Pabasa for one hour.

Jail Supt. Michelle Bonto, QCJMD warden, said the Pabasa ng Passion is conducted for the Christian PDLs to commemorate the life, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It aims to provide care to the PDLs for them to have a positive outlook in life, hope, and to strengthen their faith despite the challenges they are facing.
On Sunday, April 10, more than 2,000 PDLs attended an online Holy Mass to celebrate Palm Sunday at the jail facility in Kamuning, Quezon City.
Aside from the Pabasa ng Pasyon, the PDLs will also participate in other activities for the Holy week such as the Holy Mass and Washing of the Feet, Station of the Cross, Veneration of the Cross, and Easter Sunday of the Lord’s Resurrection, the QCJMD said.
