Kindergarten children in Vietnamese capital back to school after Covid-19 hiatus

HANOI, Vietnam -- Hundreds of thousands of children of kindergarten ages in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi returned to school on Wednesday after a months-long hiatus due to Covid-19.

Unlike school pupils and university students, kindergarten children did not have online learning while the schools were closed due to Covid-19.

According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the city has nearly 540,000 children of kindergarten ages, and more than 80 percent of them had been registered to return to school on Wednesday.

Hanoi is still the epidemic hotspot of the country with more than 1,900 new Covid-19 cases recorded on Tuesday.

As of Tuesday, the country had reported nearly 10.3 million cases with roughly 43,000 deaths, according to the ministry of health.

Nearly 77 million people aged 12 and above have been inoculated with at least two doses of Covid-19 vaccines in Vietnam.

The northern province of Quang Ninh will become the first in the country to inoculate children aged 5 to 11 on Thursday, Vietnam News Agency reported on Wednesday.
