Five drown in massive flood left by tropical storm 'Agaton' in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY – Although no storm signal was raised over Iloilo, the flood brought by the tropical depression Agaton’s torrential rains proved deadly as well.

In a report submitted by the Iloilo Provincial Health Office to the Department of Health (DOH-6), five people reportedly drowned in three towns affected by massive flooding as a result of heavy rains spawned by then tropical storm Agaton.

Three of the casualties were from the town of Sara. These were 62-year-old Florentino Dema-ala of Ardemil village, 47-year-old Nelson Edama of Tady village, and 16-year-old J-Boy Reyes of Apologista village.

Dema-ala’s body was recovered last April 11 while the bodies of Edama and Reyes were recovered Tuesday, April 12.

The other two casualties were from Ajuy and Lemery towns.

Rescuers in Ajuy town found the body of 41-year-old Alfred Osano Wednesday, April 13, after flood waters subsided.

Rescuers in Lemery town also found the body of 47-year-old Ernesto Pamplona Jr. also Wednesday, April 13.

As of April 13, Agaton’s flood has displaced approximately 393,000 people in Iloilo province, a scant 247.3 kilometers from Eastern Visayas which was hardly hit by fury of Agaton, especially the province of Leyte.
