FDA approves 2nd booster for select sectors—DOH

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved administering a second Covid-19 booster shot for select individuals, the Department of Health (DOH) said on Wednesday, April 13.

In a statement, the DOH said it already received "additional emergency use authorization from the FDA to administer an additional Covid-19 vaccine booster dose to all senior citizens 60 years old and above, the immunocompromised, and frontline healthcare workers."

The DOH said that the FDA has "recognized waning immunity in the specific populations."

"This second booster dose shall be given at least four months after the first booster," the DOH said.

"For moderately and severely immunocompromised patients, the second booster could be given earlier subject to the attending physician's assessment," it added.

The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) will draft the guidelines for this said measure.

"The National COVID-19 Vaccination Operations Center or NVOC is now drafting guidelines for implementation of the second booster dose roll-out," the DOH said.
