Disagreement among Comelec commissioners will be resolved, Palace believes

Malacañang said Wednesday it believes that the conflict among the Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioners will be resolved "amicably and professionally."

In a statement, presidential spokesman Martin Andanar said the Palace respects the independence of the poll body.

He added that the Palace is confident that any internal disagreement will also be settled and will not affect the integrity of the upcoming elections.

On Tuesday, April 12, Commissioner Socorro Inting resigned as chairman of the poll body's Committee on Firearms and Security Concerns (CFSC) as a form of "passive protest."

This came a day after the Comelec en banc voted 4-3 to give Comelec Chairman Saidamen B. Pangarungan power to grant gun ban exemptions.

In a television interview, Comelec Commissioner George Erwin M. Garcia said there is no internal conflict within the poll body.
