Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner George Garcia on Wednesday, April 13, said the en banc has no action yet on the resignation of Commissioner Socorro Inting as Chairperson of the Committee on the Ban on Firearms and Security Concerns.

Inting submitted her resignation on April 12.
In a memorandum, she said, the bestowal on the Chairman of the Commission of the power to grant gun ban exemptions and place Election Areas of Concern under Comelec Control based on the vague and arbitrary phrase of "meritorious and urgent cases" essentially rendered futile or pointless the existence and functions of the CBFSC.
"I cannot in good conscience continue to remain as CBFSC Chairperson when this same position has already been made inutile due to the enactment of Comelec Resolution No. 10777," Inting said.
"In protest, I hereby irrevocably resign as CBFSC Chairperson effective immediately," she added.
During their en banc on Wednesday, Commissioner Aimee Ferolino wore black in support of Inting. Although Commissioner Marlon Casquejo was also in black, it was not clear if it was also in support of Inting. Both attended the en banc virtually.
Meanwhile, Comelec Chairman Saidamen Pangarungan issued a statement on the resignation of Inting.
"Dissent is an integral element of democracy. As a member of a Commission that enables our democratic exercise, I welcome the differing opinions and stances of my colleagues. This is part and parcel of our sacred duty to the nation as a collegial body. I have nothing but respect for the valuable work done by all our Commissioners, especially, by Commissioner Inting in the CBFSC and all the committees that ensure the conduct of honest, peaceful and credible elections. We are professionals and we will continue to work towards a common goal," he said.
"I would also like to restate that the authority vested in me will only be used when there is an extreme need and as recommended by the PNP and AFP. As of now, I have not placed any area under Comelec control. It is my fervent hope that there will be no need for the exercise of such authority," added Pangarungan.
