PH, China join hands in responding to climate change

The Philippines and China affirmed their commitment to work together in responding to climate change.

Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian disclosed on Monday, April 11, that he met with Secretary Robert Borje, the vice chairperson and commissioner of the Climate Change Commission.

Huang said during the meeting, they were able to discuss their continuing partnership in efforts against climate change and their various areas of cooperation.

"We had an exchange of views on climate change and both emphasized the importance of continuing partnership in climate change action and enhancing practical cooperation," the ambassador said.

"China has always been advancing climate governance and implementing the Paris Agreement with concrete actions, no matter whatever outside circumstances are. We talk the talk and walk the walk," he added.

The Chinese envoy further said that the Philippines, as one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, "is playing an important role in giving a resonant voice to the world."

China and the Philippines, he said, have "huge potential and bright prospect in climate change cooperation."

The ambassador also stated that "China is looking forward to working closely with the Philippines to strengthen talks and cooperation on climate change, push for the full and effective implementation of the Paris Agreement and promote the building of a fair, reasonable and win-win global climate change governance system and a community with a shared future for mankind."
