Meralco sizzles, secures first quarters berth in PBA 3x3

Meralco beat previous champion Limitless to complete a sweep of its first three assignments in the sixth and final leg of the PBA 3x3 second conference Tuesday, April 12 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Tonino Gonzaga, Joseph Sedurifa, Dexter Maiquez and Maclean Sabellina claimed a 22-18 victory over Limitless to secure the first quarterfinals berth in Pool A with a 3-0 record.

The Bolts earlier defeated the Sista Super Sealers (21-11) and NorthPort Batang Pier (21-13) to begin their bid to add a second leg crown before the Grand Finals on April 28.

Limitless uncharacteristically is fighting for survival after ending the first day tied for third with Sista at 1-2 record, its other loss coming against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel (21-17).

The Appmasters began the day with a 22-15 over the NorthPort Batang Pier before dropping the next two.

Meanwhile, TNT, Pioneer and Purefoods closed in securing direct entries to the quarters with similar 2-0 starts.

TNT downed Terrafirma (21-16) and San Miguel Beer (21-18) while Pioneer prevailed over SMB (17-16) and Terrafirma (16-12) in Pool B.

Purefoods took down Master Sardines (21-9) and Platinum Karaoke (21-17) to go on top of Pool C.

Six more games in pool play will be played Wednesday morning at the same venue before Leg 6 moves into the knockout stage around lunch time.

The top three teams in Pool A and the each of the first and second placers in Pool B and C will advance to the quarters outright while the third placers in Pool B and C meet in a knockout game to determine the last berth in the final eight.
