Agaton's flood displaces 46,700 in Iloilo

ILOILO CITY -- Approximately 46,700 people have been displaced by the flood caused by intermittent rains of tropical depression Agaton in Iloilo province.

These individuals are from 14,121 families in 13 towns, according to the data released by Iloilo Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (Iloilo PDRRMO) as of Tuesday morning.

Iloilo PRDRRMO chief Jerry Bionat said that the numbers are higher, although some local government units (LGUs) have not yet forwarded initial reports as manpower is focused in rescue operations.

Hardest hit are residents in towns of northern Iloilo province as floodwaters engulfed their homes.

So far, the town of Ajuy has the most number of displaced with 15,863 persons or 6,889 families.

In the town of Banate, the flood displaced 10,749 persons or 2,861 families.

In Sara, the number of residents displaced by flood was 6,043 persons belonging to 1,699 families.

The town of San Dionisio had at least 3, 578 people displaced or 1,461 families.

There are also 1,304 people belonging to 388 families had also been displaced in Lemery town.

The flood displaced 829 persons or 248 families in Balasan while 813 persons or 185 families in Dingle.

The towns of Calres, San Enrique, Pototan, New Lucena, and Leganes were not spared as flood also affected their residents.

A bridge in Dingle town was also destroyed.
