'Agaton' weakens into a low pressure area; threat of heavy rainfall remains

Tropical depression Agaton (international name: Megi) has weakened into a low pressure area (LPA), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Tuesday, April 12.

PAGASA, in its latest bulletin issued as of 11 p.m., said that the LPA – formerly “Agaton” – was spotted in the coastal waters of Guiuan, eastern Samar and it is moving southeastward slowly.

Despite its further weakening, the state weather bureau warned of heavy rains that may still persist due to this weather disturbance.

“Tonight through tomorrow evening , moderate to heavy rains are still possible over eastern Visayas, Sorsogon, Masbate, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Camotes and Bantayan Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces,” PAGASA warned.

All tropical cyclone wind signals (TCWS) in the country have been lifted.
