Tropical depression Agaton (international name: Megi) continues to “slowly move away” from the Philippine landmass and it was last spotted in the vicinity of Llorente, eastern Samar, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Tuesday, April 12.

The center of “Agaton” was last seen in the vicinity of Llorente, eastern Samar. It has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour (kph), gustiness of up to 75 kph, and it is moving eastward slowly.
According to PAGASA’s latest bulletin issued as of 2 p.m., only eastern Samar, Samar, northern Samar, Biliran, Leyte, southern Leyte, Camotes Island, and Dinagat Islands remain under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) no. 1.
Wind signals in other areas have been lifted, said PAGASA.
Due to “Agaton,” the state weather bureau still warns of moderate to heavy with at times intense rains over eastern Visayas, Bicol Region, the northern and central portions of Cebu including Bantayan and Camotes Islands, Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo, Antique, Guimaras, and the northern and central portions of Negros Provinces.
'Agaton' to further weaken; 'Basyang' to exit PAR within 12 hours
PAGASA Administrator Vicente Malano, on the other hand, said that “Agaton” is expected to further weaken and become a low pressure area (LPA) in the next five days.
“Sa ngayon po, ang bagyong Agaton ay naging depression na lang at inaasahan natin na hihina iyan at magiging LPA na lang in the next five days (Agaton is currently a tropical depression and we expect it to weaken and become an LPA in the next five days),” said Malano during the Palace briefing.
Meanwhile, the second weather disturbance that the state weather bureau is monitoring – typhoon Basyang (international name: Malakas) – is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) within 12 hours.
“Ito pong bagyong Basyang ay inaasahan natin na within 12 hours ay lalabas din po iyan at ang mangyayari po ay dahil ito ay mas malakas kaysa doon sa Agaton, iyong Agaton po ay basically magiging LPA na lang. Inaasahan po natin ang pagganda ng ating panahon Huwebes (We expect typhoon Basyang to exit PAR within 12 hours. Considering that this is stronger than the other weather disturbance, Agaton will basically weaken and become an LPA. We expect better weather beginning Thursday, April 12),” said Malano.
