Sotto returns to Muntinlupa whose cityhood he sponsored

Vice presidential candidate and Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto joined the early morning flag-raising ceremony at the Muntinlupa City hall and recalled Muntinlupa’s cityhood bid in 1995 which he sponsored.

Muntinlupa became a highly-urbanized city March 1, 1995 through the signing of Republic Act 7926 or the Charter of the City of Muntinlupa.

Sotto was the main sponsor of the Muntinlupa Cityhood bill in the Senate as chairman of the Committee on Local Government.

“I am glad that since Muntinlupa became a city, that we worked hard with architect Atty. Corro. Since I became a senator from 1992 up to the present, there were two laws wherein I faced difficulty: to make Makati a city and to make Muntinlupa a city. Because there were senators who opposed it. But we found a way so Muntinlupa became a city,” said Sotto.

Sotto and Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi were first elected as vice mayors in 1988 and were part of the Vice Mayors’ League.

Fresnedi said Sotto became the president of the Vice Mayors’ League in the National Capital Region and the Philippines.

“ is the main sponsor of our cityhood of Muntinlupa,” said Fresnedi.

The vice presidential candidate said he is glad of the results of Muntinlupa’s transition to a city and commended Fresnedi for his leadership as mayor.
