Robredo, volunteers send relief goods to Leyte amid 'Agaton' onslaught

Presidential candidate Vice President Leni Robredo and her volunteers have mobilized relief efforts for the families affected by Typhoon “Agaton” in Leyte province.

Agaton wreaked havoc on southern Philippines provinces over the weekend, forcing road closures, flooding, and landslides. Families have been stranded as roads became impassable because of fallen electric posts and trees.

“Tuloy-tuloy ang coordination natin (We’re continuing our coordination) with LGUs regarding #AgatonPH para makapagdala na agad ng tulong sa mga apektadong lugar ng (to send immediate help to the affected areas by) TY Agaton,” Robredo said in a tweet.

The Vice President has no scheduled political campaign activity today, Monday, April 11, though she is scheduled to visit La Union and Masbate tomorrow, April 12, and Catanduanes on Wednesday, April 13, before taking a Holy Week break.

She said that drinking water for the typhoon-ravaged Baybay, Leyte is expected to arrive by lunchtime while her volunteers are targeting to reach and “distribute relief packs” in Abuyog, Leyte and Sogod, Southern Leyte this afternoon.

“We have been coordinating with volunteers since yesterday. Maraming salamat po sa ating mga volunteers na handang tumugon sa pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayan (Thank you very much to our volunteers who are ready to respond to the needs of our fellowmen),” Robredo tweeted.

Robredo People’s Council (RPC) Leyte, the volunteer organization of the Robredo campaign, posted on Facebook that relief assistance will be sent to Sogod, Abuyog, and Baybay.

Earlier, some of Robredo’s supporters also fetched a group of former Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s supporters who were stranded in Tacloban City because of the typhoon. Some Robredo volunteers also offered their homes to shelter them.
