Lacson not withdrawing from Palace race even if he is 'running with one leg'
Presidential candidate Senator Panfilo Lacson on Monday, April 11 said he is not withdrawing from the Macy 9, 2022 presidential race even if he is running with one leg.
’I will finish the race. Even if I am crippled, I will crawl to finish the race,’’ Lacson after revealing that former Quezon City Mayor Brigido "Jun" Simon Jr. approached him in Pampanga last March 12 to ask him to withdraw from the presidential race.
‘’He told me they can convince Senator (Francis) Pangilinan (the vice presidential candidate of presidential aspirant Vice President Leni Robredo) to withdraw to give way to the tandem of Vice President Robredo and his (Lacson’s) running mate, Senate President Tito Sotto,’’ Lacson said.
‘’But I cut him off right there and told him, “I am not withdrawing. May usapang lalaki kami ni SP (Senate President) Sotto na magkasama kami all the way (I and Sotto have an agreement that we will be together all the way),’’ added.
Lacson said he also narrated to Simon of two previous attempts by the Vice President herself toward unification--something that the former Philippine National Police (PNP) chief claimed that Robredo did "only for herself".
‘’He (Simon) stopped talking and left,’’ he stressed.
Lacson emphasized that the former mayor kept asking for an appointment a number of times, purportedly in relation to his campaign.
‘’I did not respond as I wasn’t sure what the agenda was, not to mention that I do not know him that well and I was busy campaigning,’’he added.
Lacson said that no matter what the final outcome of the 2022 elections are, he would still “feel very much like a winner” because of the many lessons he has learned and would continue to learn on his second presidential journey.
“Whatever is the outcome of the May 9 elections, win or lose, I will still feel like a winner, very much a winner. Why? There are so many lessons learned. Sabi ko nga (Like I said), hardened by many, many years of experience, I can easily handle my enemies,” Lacson said.
The independent presidential bet noted that he would take advantage of the Lenten Season to reflect on his ongoing political battles and "pray for discernment", so the Lord would guide him to become better at judging people’s characters. Lacson, Sotto and senatorial candidate Dr. Minguita Padilla, are all practicing Catholics.
“You know me, talagang palaban ako (I’m a fighter). Ang nakalimutan kong pag-aralan (But I forgot to learn) how to protect myself from friends. I’m still struggling to learn how to protect myself from my friends,” Lacson told a media forum.
‘’And it’s quite fitting because it’s Holy Week, starting yesterday, Palm Sunday. I said maybe I need to say a prayer for discernment so we could have better judgment of character when we get out of this exercise, this whole (political) exercise. I would be better at scrutinizing who are the real friends versus the fake,’’ he added.
