After a Dengue outbreak was declared in Zamboanga City, the Department of Health (DOH) on Monday, April 11, said it is now implementing dengue preventive measures in the area based on the most recent available epidemiologic data.

The DOH said it is closely coordinating a response to the outbreak of dengue cases in Region IX, through the Center for Health Development (CHD) of Zamboanga and its Regional Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (RESU).
“DOH and the local government units (LGUs) of the area, including Zamboanga City's City Health Office are implementing protocols according to the most recent available epidemiologic data. These include dengue preventive measures meant to stop the disease vector, which is the Aedes aegypti mosquito,” the health department said in a statement.
According to DOH, there are also Dengue Fast lanes and Separate Rooms in hospitals for those who will fall ill.
“Insecticide-treated curtains and screens are likewise being used in health facilities of the region,” it noted.
Meanwhile, the DOH called on the public to be vigilant and ensure a clean and dry household in order for mosquitoes not to have a breeding ground.
“The public is further advised to follow the 4S against Dengue--- search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; self-protection measures; seek early consultation of symptoms; and support spraying/fogging to prevent further outbreaks,” the agency said.
Recently, the city government of Zamboanga has declared a dengue outbreak. This came after the Zamboanga City Health Office recorded 893 dengue cases with 11 deaths from January 1 to April 2 this year.
