Government works, classes at all levels suspended in E. Visayas due to 'Agaton'

TACLOBAN CITY -- Local Government Units in Eastern Visayas have suspended government works and classes at all levels for Monday due to heavy rains and massive flooding brought by Tropical Storm 'Agaton'.

Southern Leyte Governor Damian Mercado issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels and work in all government and private institutions.

Tacloban City in Leyte and the towns of Tabango, Barugo, Palo, Carigara, Tanauan, Tolosa, and Sta. Fe followed suit.

In Ormoc City and Kananga, Leyte, classes at public and private elementary as well as high school (including senior high school) levels have been suspended also.

In Eastern Samar, the municipalities of Taft, Balangiga, Guiuan, Giporlos, and Balangkayan have also issued executive orders suspending Monday’s work and face-to-face classes at all levels.

In Biliran province, Mayor Rhodessa Delante-Revita of Caibiran town, and Mayor Gerard Espina of Naval have suspended work and classes at all levels as a preemptive measure in anticipation of any development that may arise in stormy weather like this.

Revita said the suspension order does not include the government employees whose work is directly involved in disaster risk reduction and management, peace and order, and emergency health care.

Biliran, Almeria, Culaba, and Kawayan LGUS have also issued their executive orders suspending office works in all government agencies and instrumentalities except those at the frontline whose services would be needed in emergency situation on Monday, April 11.

Meanwhile, Samar Governor Reynolds Michael Tan has also suspended classes in all private and public schools and work in all government offices in the entire province.
