Onic PH inches closer to playoff berth with reverse sweep of Omega

Onic Philippines took a step closer to a playoff berth following a 2-1 reverse sweep of Omega Esports in the MPL Philippines Season 9 on Friday, April 1.

Onic actually had the chance to secure the playoff spot with a sweep but the squad fell to Omega in the series opener. The M3 World Championship runner-up then recovered from the hiccup and secured the next two points of the series to improve its record to 7-4 and 17 points, two points away from an assured playoff spot.

Onic PH displayed poise in the crucial Game 3 as it secured the last two major objectives, including the 24-minute Luminous Lord that made the difference in the match. Onic then capped the 25-minute game with a wipeout during the Lord siege to complete the 22-15 series clincher.

Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales had a perfect game of 5-0-12 KDA on the Yve while Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol unloaded a 7-3-10 KDA to lead Onic.

Omega scored the first point of the series as it hoped to pump life to its playoff bid. The last season fourth placers used the clash in the final Lord take to turn things around in the opening game and create space for Raizen’s jungle Baxia to secure the second Luminous Lord.

Onic went for a late contest with Kairi on the Karina, buffed by the heart guard ultimate from Baloyskie’s Angela, going full throttle against Omega heroes. He however was punished by Omega as Duane “Kelra” Pillas scored on a triple kill to secure the first point of the series, 12-9.

Kelra spearheaded Omega with a 5-1-1 line on the Claude while Patrick “E2max” Caidic had a 4-1-8 showing.

Eager to strengthen its bid for the playoff spot, Onic managed to salvage a point in the series following 15-8 victory in the equalizer. Onic took map control early as Kairi on the jungle Karina prevailed in his battle against Raizen’s Ling.

Ryota on the EXP lane Hylos and Baloyskie on the roaming Grock also made life difficult to the Omega jungler. That Onic lead was evident in a huge clash for the nine-minute Lord as it scored a four-man wipe of Omega.

Another clash at the 14-minute mark proved to be the difference for Onic as it then completed a wipeout to force the winner-take-all.
