QC relaunches 'Men Opposed to Violence against Women Everywhere' program

The Quezon City Government has relaunched the Men Opposed to Violence against Women Everywhere (MOVE) program to help reduce gender-based violence and also in celebration of National Women’s Month.

“Para maging matagumpay ang ating kampanya laban sa karahasan, kailangan kasama natin sa ating panig ang mga kalalakihan. Kailangan maging committed sila na hindi kailanman papayag o palalampasin ang pang-aabuso sa mga bata at kababaihan (For our campaign against violence to be successful, we need men on our side. They need to be committed to never tolerate or condone the abuse of children and women)," Mayor Joy Belmonte said.

The program also aims to invite more men to join the city’s chapter and become active participants in eliminating violence against women or VAW.

Belmonte also said that the city shall adopt a zero tolerance policy against all forms of violence, abuse, and sexual harassment in the city.

Last year, the barangays received 3,981 reports of physical, verbal, and sexual harassment against women according to the data from the City’s Gender and Development Council.

As of 2021, MOVE has 73 chapters nationwide including in national government agencies and local government units.

Vice Mayor Gian Sotto was also named as the honorary chairman of QC MOVE for his role in the swift dispensation of justice for a female employee who was sexually harassed by her male boss.
