Negros Occ. boosts network connectivity for agri products

BACOLOD CITY - The provincial government of Negros Occidental is pushing for a network of connectivity for markets and products to further boost the agriculture sector and help farmers in the country.

The province opened a five-day “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” at the Capitol Grounds here on Monday, March 7, aimed at linking producers from Davao Region with the consumers as well as producers of agricultural products here and in the province.

According to Provincial Agriculturist Edmundo Raul Causing, they are hoping that through this activity, they could establish a network which will enable them to connect the markets and products from the different islands.

The “Kadiwa ni Ani at Kita” at the Capitol Grounds featured various fruits from Davao Region throught the initiatives of the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Western Visayas and the provincial government in partnership with DA Davao Region.

About 20 metric tons of assorted quality fruits like durian, mangosteen, rambutan, pineapple, pomelo, marang, jackfruit and banana were displayed at the Capitol grounds to be sold to Negrense consumers at affordable prices.

Aside from fruits, the province’s diwal (angel wings clam) can also be bought. The activity also includes business-to-business and market scanning.

Provincial Administrator Atty. Rayfrando Diaz II said the provincial government has actually started innovating in terms of improving the delivery of products from the farmers to the market.

“We want to ensure that food security is there and famers are able to reach the market that they want to reach,” Diaz said.
