Comelec to honor SC TRO on 'Oplan Baklas'

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said it will honor the temporary restraining order (TRO) issued by the Supreme Court (SC) on "Oplan Baklas" Tuesday.

"We haven't received the TRO formally but we are aware of the contents of the TRO and during the discussion of the Commission en banc earlier, it was agreed, of course, that we will honor the TRO issued by the Supreme Court," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing, Wednesday, March 9.

However, the Comelec said it will continue to dismantle oversized and misplaced materials in public spaces.

"We will continue with our Baklas Operations in public spaces as it is required by law. However, as far as baklas in private places, that is held in abeyance in deference to the court," said Jimenez.

Asked as to who will be drafting their comment on the case, he said, they are still looking.

"Normally that would be the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG). But we still have to wait, to see as you know the OSG has on occassion has taken contrary position to us so we are going to have to wait and see what there position on this matter will be. Again all things being equal, the OSG should be preparing the statement for Comelec," Jimenez said.
