Vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte took a momentary break from her usual campaign message of unity Tuesday, 8 by extolling Philippine revolutionary Trinidad Tecson.

Duterte did so during the occasion of International Women’s Day, while wooing voters in Tecson's home province of Bulacan.
“Makabuluhan po ang celebration ng UniTeam ng International Women’s Day dito po sa Bulacan dahil ang isa sa mga Pilipina na napakalaki ang naitulong sa ating kalayan ay tagarito sa probinsiya ng Bulacan, si Trinidad Tecson (UniTeam's celebration of International Women's Day in Bulacan is meaningful because Trinidad Tecson, who contributed a lot to our fight for freedom, is one of the province's own),” Duterte said in a massive rally at the Guiguinto Municipal Arena.
Among the many titles and monikers earned by Tecson are the following: "Mother of Biak-na-Bato", "Mother of Mercy", and "Mother of the Philippine National Red Cross".
Born in San Miguel de Mayumo, Bulacan in Nov. 18, 1948, Tecson would join the Katipunan at age 45.
"On the battlefield, she tended to the wounded Katipuneros. In the bloody battle of San Miguel and Zaragosa she was shot in her right thigh. Tecson and the others were forced to retreat to Biak-na-Bato, which became the revolutionary headquarters of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo," read her profile on Wikipedia.
The UniTeam is comprised of Duterte and Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) standard-bearer Bongbong Marcos. The latter was also present at the Guiguinto rally.
Still on the subject of International Women’s Day, the lady mayor and presidential daughter urged Filipino women to go into business. She cited her pet project in Davao called “Magnegosio Ta Dai (Let's do business, girl)” as a manifestation of this advocacy.
"Sinasabihan po naming sila micro-enterprise, napakalaking tulong na po non sa mga bahay-bahay sa komunidad (We tell them to go to into micro-enterprise, that's a huge help to the community),” Duterte said.
“Lagi ko pong sinasabi sa mga kababaihan doon sa amin sa siyudad ng Davao, na ang mga kababaihan po ay napakalaki ng maitutulong sa ating mga komunidad, hindi lang as women leaders pwede din na ang mga kababaihan ay makatulong sa ekonomiya ng ating komunidad (We always tell the women of Davao that women can be of great help to the community, not only as women leaders but also as drivers of the economy),” she further said.
The survey-leading UniTeam had two more rallies penciled Tuesday in Bulacan--one at the Meycauayan College Annex, Barangay Malhacan, Meycauayan; and another at the open space, Barangay Santa Clara, Sta. Maria.
