Removal of campaign materials in QC public places not political propaganda - DPOS
Quezon City Department of Public Order and Safety (DPOS) Head retired police Brig. Gen. Elmo San Diego on Monday, March 7, said the removal of 2022 election campaign materials posted on public places is not a political propaganda but an initiative by the local government to maintain the city's cleanliness and orderliness.
"Hindi ito political propaganda lang. Lahat ng mga illegal na tarpaulins na kinabit, walang permit sa Quezon City tatanggalin natin (This is not a political propaganda. We will remove all the tarpaulins posted without permit from Quezon City )," San Diego said.
The DPOS, local government and Quezon City Police District (QCD) personnel started the clearing operations along H Ventura St., Brgy. Pansol on Monday morning, targeting campaign posters of all national and local candidates that were not placed on Commission on Elections (Comelec) designated areas.
San Diego explained that the activity only focuses on materials posted on public places (including trees, walls, electric posts and wires), which is different from the Comelec's "Oplan Baklas" last Feb. 8, which included the removal of posters in private properties that violated its guidelines. It will be conducted in the city's six districts until Wednesday, March 9.
For private properties, San Diego said that they will not remove any materials unless the owners will confirm that they did not give permission for the postings.
The DPOS head added that they will have follow through operations for the inner streets in the city assigned to each baranggay after the three day period.
"Ang gusto lang namin malinis ang Quezon City, may kaayusan, yun ang importante (What is important is for Quezon City to be clean and in order)" he said
San Diego said that the campaign materials can only be posted in common poster areas assigned by Comelec.
He also reminded groups not to repost the materials on the same places as they will only be taken down again by city officials.
