Negros top officials remain 'solid' despite differing choices for president

BACOLOD CITY - Despite endorsing different presidential candidates for the May 2022 elections, Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson and Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer have vowed to keep their coalition solid.

Lacson recently declared his support for the presidential bid of Vice President Leni Robredo, while Ferrer and 29 local chief executives in the province expressed their support for the tandem of former Senator Ferdinand “Bong-Bong” Marcos and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.

Lacson and Ferrer recently faced the media to debunk speculations on a brewing rift between them because they are supporting different presidential candidates.

“Let’s keep it neutral,” Lacson said, as he assured that he and Ferrer will continue to work together under any elected president.

Lacson also thanked the 30 mayors for their efforts and told them that he respects their choices.

For his part, Ferrer stressed that his tandem with Lacson is “very solid.”

“We have this unified courses in the province. Nobody can destroy us,” Ferrer said.

Meanwhile, Lacson said he will be joining Robredo’s campaign sortie in the province on March 11.

Lacson said that Robredo’s first stop is in his hometown in San Carlos City. Robredo will also visit Sagay City and Kabankalan City before converging here for the program.

Both local officials also called on Negrenses to respect the choices of everyone and respect the candidates who will visit the province.

“Let’s enjoy the festive mood of the campaign,” Lacson said.
