Comelec to receive questions for debates


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be receiving questions from the public ahead of the PiliPinas Debates 2022.

"If you have questions, just send them to the Comelec but we do have a reach out packet to those who we solicit questions from. But we are not limited to these people only. Anyone who wants to submit questions, that's fine. We will open up lines for submissions also so that people will be able to ask questions," Comelec Spokesperson James Jimenez said in a press briefing in Pasay, Monday, March 7.

"We are making it clear that you can submit the questions you want. But there isn't a guarantee that your question will be asked. We want to get a sense of what the people wants to know, to zoom down, to what the sector considers important," he added.

The first Presidential Debates is on March 19, followed by the Vice-Presidential Debates on March 20, There will also be a second Presidential Debates on April 3.

The Presidential and Vice Presidential Town Hall Debates will be held on April 23 and 24, respectively.

Meanwhile, Comelec Acting Chairman Socorro Inting expressed hope that the bets will attend the debates.

"I really hope all the candidates will participate in the debates sponsored by Comelec," she said.

Inting said the purpose of the debates is to raise public awareness to ensure that Filipino voters afforded opportunity to make informed decisions on election day.

Jimenez said they are already working on getting written commitments from the bets.

"In general, I think most of them are already eager to attend. We'll know within the week confirmed attendees," he said.
