BFAR 2 trains women fisherfolk on fish processing technology

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan â€“ Women fisherfolks here as well as members of the Rural Improvement Club of Barangay Cagumitan (RIC Cagumitan), Tuao, recently participated in a hands-on training on fish processing and value-adding technology.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, through its training arm, the Regional Fisheries Training and Fishefolk Coordinating Center (RFTFCD), spearheaded the conduct of the activity.

The training program is a component of the establishment of value-added fish processing technology demonstration project in the area.

The group of women also received a complete set of fish processing paraphernalia as a form of livelihood assistance from the fisheries bureau.

Fisheries experts on post-harvest technology taught participants the various ways to prepare value-added products from tilapia such as skin fish chicharon, fish nuggets, fish ball, fish roll, fish lumpia, and breaded fish.

Provincial Fisheries Officer of Cagayan Jennifer T. Tattao encouraged all members to pursue what they have learned for a profitable venture.

She expressed hope for RIC Cagumitan to become one of the beneficiaries of BFAR projects in the region.

The bureau offers capability and skills training among individuals, groups, and associations as part of its mandate on fisherfolk empowerment.
