Zamboanga eager to prove self vs Ham

Filipina fighter Denice Zamboanga is eager to return to the Circle and settle unfinished business with South Korean rival Ham Seo Hee in ONE: X, ONE Championship's 10th-year anniversary, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on March 26.

"They will see another version or 'Version 2.0' of Denice Zamboanga. Ang dami kong mga winork na weaknesses (I made many adjustments and worked on my weaknesses) from my last fight so they would see another version of me," said Zamboanga in a recent interview with the Manila Bulletin.

"Gusto ko talagang mapatunayan na akin talaga 'yong panalo na 'yon (I want to prove that I really won that fight)," added the Marrok Force stalwart, who suffered a controversial split decision loss against Ham in the quarterfinals of inaugural ONE women's atomweight grand prix.

Looking back, Zamboanga admitted that she had many mistakes and poor execution of game plan against Ham in their first meeting which paved the way for the judges to decide the match once and for all.

The decision underwent formal review by the promotion's Competition Committee but the call was eventually upheld as Ham, now the No. 3 contender, advanced to the semifinals.

In a surprising turn of events, the South Korean veteran missed her opportunity to compete in the semis as she suffered an injury during training camp. Ham, who has a 24-8 record, was supposed to face eventual tournament champion Stamp Fairtex.

Stamp being hailed as the inaugural ONE women's atomweight grand prix champion also made her the top contender and in the process pushed back Zamboanga to the No. 2 spot.

Interestingly, both Zamboanga, 25, and Ham, 28, have not seen action in the Circle since facing each other.

"This time talagang gagawin ko na 'yong talagang trinain ko. Sisiguraduhin kong 'di ko na dadalhin sa judges 'yong laban (This time around, I'll make sure to follow the gameplan and make sure not to put the match at the hands of the judges)," added Zamboanga, who suffered her first career loss with eight wins.
