PAGASA warns of possible flash floods, landslides in VisMin due to LPA

Due to the moderate to at times heavy rain showers that the low pressure area (LPA) may bring, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday, March 6, warned against flash floods and landslides in the Visayas and Mindanao.

The LPA, according to PAGASA, was last spotted 250 kilometers (km) east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur. Although less likely to develop into a tropical cyclone, the State weather bureau said that it is expected to bring rains in most parts of the country.

“Posible po itong magdala ng pag-ulan at maaari rin itong magdulot ng pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa. Inaasahan po natin ngayong gabi ay makakaranas ng kalat-kalat na pag-ulan na may pagkidlat at pagkulog itong MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental at Zamboanga del Norte (The LPA may cause flash floods and landslides in the affected areas. Tonight, it is expected to bring scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas, Caraga, Davao de Oro, Davao Oriental, and Zamboanga del Norte),” said PAGASA weather specialist Samuel Duran in a public weather forecast.

Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, Metro Manila and the rest of the country may experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to the easterlies or warm and humid winds from the Pacific Ocean.

No gale warning is in effect over the country’s seaboards. Thus, fisherfolk and seafarers are free and safe to sail.
