DILG vows to ensure peace, credible polls in Cagayan Valley region

Officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Cagayan Valley region have vowed to ensure the peaceful conduct of the May 9 national and local elections.
And as part of its move to maintain peace and order during election days, the DILG Region 2 has joined forces with various stakeholders which was highlighted through a “Unity Walk, Candidate Forum and Peace Covenant Signing’’ in coordination with the Commission on Election (Comelec).
DILG Region 2 Director Jonathan Paul M. Leusen, Jr. and DILG-Cagayan Provincial Director Ruperto B. Maribbay, Jr. were part of the campaign which were participated by the personnel from other government agencies, candidates for local elections, representatives from religious groups, academe and other non-government organizations (NGOs).
Leusen said that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, “the mere presence of agencies and other stakeholders during the activity is a manifestation of their firm resolve to take on the challenge for the upcoming election.’’
“Even the smallest and simplest deeds, when combined, will significantly contribute to achieving a peaceful, safe, and honest election. Further, this effort will ultimately redound to improving governance for both national and local levels and the benefit of the voting populace,” Leusen said.
The candidates’ forum took place with each political aspirant for local posts given approximately eight minutes to introduce themselves and discuss their respective platforms.
Leusen noted that the activity concluded with the recital and ceremonial signing of the integrity pledge. (Chito A. Chavez)
