Senate bet Chiz gets another party-list backer; find out which one

Sorsogon Governor Francis "Chiz" Escudero's comeback bid to the Senate has gained another party-list supporter from the lower chamber.

Ang Probinsyano Party-list took to Facebook to declare its backing of Escudero, which it said should be elected to the Senate on the basis of his track record as a public servant which began back in1998 as Sorsogon's representative in the House.

“Kami po sa Ang Probinsyano Party-list, bilang tagapagsulong ng karapatan at pag-unlad ng buhay sa probinsya, ay buong pusong sumusuporta sa pagtakbo ni Governor Chiz Escudero para senador (As one that uplifts the rights and lives of people living in provinces, Ang Probinsyano Party-list wholeheartedly supports Governor Chiz Escudero's candidacy)," the Facebook post read.

"Makakasigurado tayong magiging kasama natin ni Governor Chiz sa pagsulong ng mga batas na talagang makakatulong sa ating mga kababayan lalo na sa ating mga probinsyano (We can be sure that Governor Chiz will be our partner in pursuing laws that would really help our people, especially those in the countryside),” the sectoral organization said.

The party-list views Escudero as a leader who focuses on the situation and needs of the provinces, as he is himself a "province-dweller".

Ang Probinsyano, which is participating in the May 2022 election, is based in Legaspi City, Albay. It is currently represented in the House of Representatives by Rep. Alfred delos Santos.

Escudero’s Senate run is also supported by party-list groups An Waray, Ang Kabuhayan, ARISE, Agimat, BHW, Bayaning Tsuper (BTS), Kusog Bikolandia, and Magdalo.

Likewise, The Federation of Free Farmers, a 200,000-strong non-government organization (NGO) considered one of the biggest in the country, said it is also endorsing Escudero.

The tandems of Vice President Leni Robredo and Senator Kiko Pangilinan, Senator Ping Lacson and Senate President Tito Sotto, and Senator Manny Pacquiao and Buhay Party-list Rep. Lito Atienza have "adopted" Escudero in their respective Senate slates.

UniTeam vice-presidential candidate and incumbent Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and mayors from CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon) and Eastern Samar, who belong to the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP), have likewise endorsed the incumbent leader of Sorsogon.

Escudero is a consistent topnotcher in various independent pre-election surveys as far as the Senate race is concerned.
