Taguig City hall offices to operate normally despite fire at detention facility
The Taguig City government said city departments will operate normally after a fire hit a police custodial facility located in the city hall compound on March 4 and injured 27 detainees, or persons under Philippine National Police custody (PUPC).
The fire started at 12:10 p.m. from the custodial facility of the Taguig City Police Station headquarters in Barangay Tuktukan.


“The station is near the Taguig City Hall but is separate from the main building where the city's departments are located. All the inmates housed in the PNP Detention Center have been accounted for. The Taguig Rescue, Bureau of Fire Protection, and Community Fire Brigade personnel immediately responded to the incident,” the Taguig City government said in a statement.
It added, “The Taguig City government assures residents that there is no cause for alarm and that all city's departments will continue to operate normally.”
The Southern Police District (SPD) reported that the 27 detainees who were injured were brought to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital for treatment.
A separate incident report from the Taguig City Fire Station stated that 50 people were injured in the fire which affected 204 individuals.
Firefighters put the fire under control at 12:27 p.m. and they put it out at 12:35 p.m. The Taguig Fire Station is investigating the cause of the fire, which damaged P9,000 worth of properties.
A total of 22 fire trucks and seven ambulances responded to the incident.
A video uploaded by the Fort Bonifacio Fire n Rescue Volunteer Inc. Global Pumper 41's on Facebook showed detainees being supervised outside the custodial facility while firefighters checked the extent of the damage caused by the fire.
One injured inmate is seen in the video being put on a stretcher. The Facebook page and video have since been deleted.
