Cebu movement formed to help Leni win

CEBU CITY — A movement has been formed here to help boost the candidacies not just of local candidates but also that of Vice President Leni Robredo.


The LeniAceJunjun Kami is composed of at least 30 groups coming from various sectors, said Emmanuel Mongaya, convenor of the movement.

Mongaya said the group is backing the tandem of former Tourism Secretary Ace Durano, who is running for governor of Cebu, and his running mate, incumbent Cebu Vice Governor Hilario “Junjun” Davide III.


The group also vowed to help Robredo muster enough votes in Cebu, which is the most vote-rich province in the country.


“We are waging a movement for change. We are a network of volunteers, connecting, coordinating, arousing and mobilizing,” said Mongaya in a press briefing on Thursday night, March 3.


Mongaya said the movement will be formally launched in Liloan town, northern Cebu and in Talisay City, southern Cebu.


Durano and Davide were on hand when the group’s prime movers met on Thursday night.


“Thank you to the people who are behind this movement. This will be a big help for me, Ace, and VP Leni,” said Davide.


Although they are runningmates, it is only Davide, a member of Liberal Party, who endorsed the candidacy of Robredo.


Durano is running under the Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago (PPP), which has yet to endorse a presidential bet.


He explained that the PPP was created to support a possible presidential run by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte.


Durano said “it really created a vaccum” when Duterte eventually decided to run for vice president.


His local party, the Barug Alang sa Kauswagan ug Demokrasya, has already endorsed the tandem of Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Duterte.


Davide sees no problem even if he and Durano end up with different presidential choices.


“We have a gentleman’s agreement and that is to respect each other’s choice,” Davide said.
