Alex Eala bowed out of the W25 Joue les Tours after falling to the hands of former Russian doubles partner Oksana Selekhmeteva, 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 16 on Friday, March 4 (Manila time).

Selekhmeteva made quick work of Eala as the Filipina wunderkind failed to keep up against her former partner who was her companion during the 2021 French Open Girl’s Doubles which the two ruled last year.
The 16-year-old Eala, who was three years younger than her counterpart, managed to hold her own in the onset of the first set after tying the game, 3-3. Selekhmeteva, however, pulled away from that point as she coasted in the next three games to secure the opening set of the match.
Eala looked unbothered by the first set defeat as she opened the second set with a 3-2 lead. Just like in the opener, Selekhmeteva retaliated by securing the next four games to complete the straight-sets victory and advance to the quarterfinals of the $25,000 event.
It was Eala’s second Round of 16 finish in the year after also failing to advance to the quarterfinals of the W60 Genoble last month.
The Rafa Nadal Academy scholar went off to a hot start in the tournament after she scored straight-sets victories over Fabienne Gettwart (6-2, 6-0) and Anna Ozeroba (6-0,6-1) in the qualifiers. She then defeated French player Jenny Lim, 6-1, 6-4 to arrange the match against Selekhmete
