QC stands for transparency in using people's fund - Mayor Belmonte

Incumbent Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte said on Wednesday, March 30, that she and the local government stand for transparency when it comes to the usage of the city’s fund for programs and projects which they believe is in line with good governance .

Belmonte said this during Serbisyo sa Bayan Party’s (SBP) caucus with the residents of Brgy. Pansol in District 3 on Wednesday evening as part of the campaign for the May 2022 elections.

“Ang atin pong pinaglalaban dito ay maayos, matino, malinis, at masinop na paggamit ng pondo ng atin pong bayan (What we are fighting for here is the proper,clean, prudent and right usage of public funds),” the mayor said.

Belmonte added that the first ordinance passed by the city council was on Freedom of Information (FOI) which makes all the documents, data, or records of the city government open to the public.

“Wala po tayong tinatago, wala po tayong sinisikreto sa taumbayan. Kahit yung paggastos po natin sa pondo ng bayan ay dapat lang malaman ng taumbayan (We don’t hide or keep secrets from the people. Even how we spend the funds should also be known to the people),” she said.

Aside from the FOI, Belmonte said the city allows all registered groups -- women, urban farmers, senior citizens -- to get involved in crafting policies and programs for Quezon City’s development.

She also cited some of the city’s accomplishments and projects, as well as plans for health, education, employment, and housing.

“Kung meron akong gustong maiwan na pamana sa inyo bilang inyong mayora, na sana matandaan ninyo na sa lahat ng mayor ay mayroon tayong isang mayor na ang tanging layunin ay ibalik sa inyo ang para sa inyo, ang karapat-dapat na serbisyo para sa inyo (If there is a legacy that I want to leave behind as your mayor, it is that among all mayors, I hope you will remember that there was a mayor whose only goal is to give you back what is rightfully yours, the service that you deserve),”

Belmonte is running for re-election as mayor of Quezon City.

Vice-mayor Gian Sotto, Councilor Franz Pumaren, who is running for representative of the city's third district, and SBP’s candidates for District 3 councilors were also present during the caucus.
