Phivolcs: No tsunami threat to PH after 7.2-magnitude quake off Loyalty Islands

There is no threat of a tsunami hitting the Philippines after a destructive 7.2-magnitude quake occurred southeast of Loyalty Islands on Thursday, March 31.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that there is no existing tsunami threat to the Philippines following the magnitude 7.2 earthquake southeast of Loyalty Islands.

“No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake,” said Phivolcs in an advisory.

The quake occurred southeast of Loyalty Islands at 1:44 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, said Phivolcs.
