Escudero urges graduates to be gov't partners in nation-building

Senatorial candidate and Sorsogon Governor Francis “Chiz” Escudero recently called on college graduates to become partners in nation-building and to harness the power of technology and communication to make a difference in the life of every Filipino.

Speaking at the Manuel L. Quezon University’s (MLQU) Commencement Exercise held on March 26 at the Victoria Sports Center in Quezon City, Escudero urged the graduating class of 2022 to be solid and reliable partners in building a better society.

Escudero, who is seeking a Senate comeback in the upcoming May polls pointed out the youth sector comprises more than halfo fo the 110 million Philippine population.

“Para sa akin, ang dapat na maging bagong sigaw, panawagan, prinsipyo at paninindigan ng kabataang Pilipino ay ito: ang kabataang Pilipino ay hindi lamang pag-asa ng bayan (For me, the new rallying call, principles, and conviction of the Filipino youth: that the Filipino youth is not just the hope of the nation),” Escudero said in a statement.

“Ang kabataang Pilipino—kayo—dapat maasahan na ng bayan. Hindi niyo kailangan hintayin na kayo’y tumanda, yumaman, magtagumpay, magka-negosyo, sumikat o magkapangalan. Ngayon, dito at kayo mismo dapat maasahan na ng ating Inang Bayan (The Filipino youth can be relied upon by the nation. You don’t need to wait to get older, to get rich, to be successful, to have a business, to be popular. Now and here, all of you can be depended upon by our nation),” Escudero said.

Escudero also said he is confident that if the youth would only instill among themselves the same love of country and patriotism displayed by their forefathers, the Philippines would be able to withstand the challenges triumphantly.

He further said the present generation has a distinct advantage over their counterparts from the past because they have the data and information needed in a speed of light, thanks to the modern gadgets that have been widely available to everyone.

The former lawmaker said the Filipino youth can use these information data to work on projects or advocacies that would uplift the lives of the poor, fight poverty and build a more compassionate Philippine society as the country marches towards progress and development.

“Malayong may kakayahan, malayong may teknolohiyang nasa kamay ninyo ang wala kami noon. Kaya walang dahilan ang kasalukuyang henerasyon na hindi mapantayan at hindi malampasan ang narating ng aming henerasyon (You are more capable, you have technology in your hands when we had none before. That’s why there’s no reason why the present generation cannot exceed what our generation was able to achieve),” Escudero pointed out.

Escudero said it is imperative for the young generation of Filipinos to learn from the mistakes of the past.

“Gamitin niyo ang mga armas na ‘yan, gamitin ninyo ang karanasan na meron kayo, gamitin ninyo ang teknolohiyang nandiyan ngayon para malampasan at higitan ang aming narating (use that as a weapon, use whatever experience that you have, use the technology available right now to surpass us),” the former senator appealed.
