Red Velvet's Seulgi, other K-stars test positive for Covid-19; 425,000 new cases in Korea today

More Korean stars have tested positive for Covid-19 as South Korea’s confirmed cases reached 12.77 million.

On March 30, SM Entertainment announced that K-pop group Red Velvet’s Seulgi has been confirmed to have Covid-19.

“Seulgi has completed the second vaccination and is currently showing no symptoms. She immediately stopped all schedules and is self-isolating according to the guidelines of the quarantine authorities,” the agency said.

It added that “although Wendy's preemptive self-test kit was negative, she will also undergo additional PCR test.”

As a result, Red Velvet’s appearances on the music TV shows “M Countdown” and “Music Bank” have been canceled.

Seulgi is the fourth member of Red Velvet to test positive for Covid-19 this month. Last March 14, SM Entertainment announced that Red Velvet members Irene, Joy and Yeri were diagnosed with Covid-19. Red Velvet recently made their comeback through the album “The ReVe Festival 2022-Feel My Rhythm.”

Other Korean stars who tested positive for Covid-19 are 2PM’s Junho, actor Seo In-guk, Purple Kiss’ Park Ji-eun and Golden Child’s Lee Jang-jun (March 25).

Meanwhile, BTS’ Jungkook was diagnosed with Covid-19 in Las Vegas on March 28.

The highly contagious Omicron variant continues to infect hundreds of thousands of South Koreans daily.

On March 30, Korea’s Ministry of Health and Welfare reported 424,641 new Covid-19 cases in the country from 347,554 new cases on March 29 to bring the total confirmed cases to 12.77 million.
