Marcos will still win despite Alvarez's backing of Robredo, says HNP exec

CARMEN, Davao del Norte--Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) Secretary General Anthony del Rosario doesn't believe that Davao del Norte 1st district Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez's declaration of support for Vice President Leni Robredo would make any difference.

"BBM (Bongbong Marcos) will still win as president," Del Rosario told reporters in an ambush interview following a UniTeam rally here.

"I don't think anything will change. Wala diperensya po yun (That won't make any difference)," added the former Davao del Norte governor.

The HNP is a key component of the UniTeam administration ticket, whose presidential candidate is former senator Marcos. Robredo is the opposition leader and Marcos's rival in the Palace race.

Last week, Partido Reporma, the poltical party headed by former Speaker Alvarez, made headlines when it announced that it was dropping its standard-bearer, Senator Panfilo Lacson in favor of Robredo.

"Ang hindi ko lang maintindihan sa kanya bakit nya iniwang yung kanyang kandidato pagka-presidente na si Ping Lacson (What I can't understand is why he ditched his presidential candidate, Ping Lacson). I cannot understand why he did that," Del Rosario said.

Lacson lagged behind the presidential surveys, which Marcos has routinely led. Robredo has been a far second.
