A 5.0-magnitude earthquake shook parts of Zambales province at around 2:55 a.m., Wednesday, March 30, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
Phivolcs traced the epicenter of the earthquake at 51 kilometers (km) southwest of Cabangan, Zambales and was shallow at a depth of 10 km.
The quake was felt as a weak tremor at Intensity III in the towns of Cabangan, Botolan, Palauig, Castillejos, San Felipe, and San Narciso in Zambales.
It was also felt as a “slightly weak” earthquake at Intensity II in Iba, San Marcelino, and Candelaria in Zambales.
Phivolcs’ instruments also recorded the earthquake at Intensity II in Olongapo City, Zambales.
The earthquake was tectonic, which means it was caused by the movement of an active fault near the area.
Phivolcs advised the public to stay vigilant as aftershocks may occur due to this earthquake.
