Iris Apfel x H&M collection is finally here in Manila

Find your inner Iris

What separates fashion icons from a sea of fashionistas? A strong sense of personal style. They are not influenced by trends, what the stars are wearing, or what’s going viral online. They have formulated a clothing language that is unique and also adapts to the ever-changing, fast-paced world of fashion. If you are looking for a great example, just look at American businesswoman and interior designer Iris Apfel.

At 100, Iris has demonstrated the power of knowing who you are through the garment you put on. With her eccentric style and bold choice, she is a true force of fashion. This time, she is inviting everyone to find their inner Iris with her collaboration collection with global retail brand H&M. Announced last 2021, the “Iris Apfel x H&M” line captures her flamboyant style through a series of fierce and look-at-me pieces, adding a dose of fun and more-is-more flair to everyone’s closet.

“The collection offers some marvelous pieces that can be used as building blocks for people exploring their personal style,” Iris says. “I don’t want people to dress like me and I don’t want people to think like me — that’s not the idea. I want people to think for themselves, to find the colors, cuts, accessories, and combinations that work for them, to use their imaginations, to wear what they love. You should be your own style icon. What makes you happy?”

“H&M was drawn to work with Iris because of her famously eclectic taste and her influence within the fashion community,” Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M womenswear creative advisor, says. “She knows what fashion is all about: it’s a means of expressing yourself, who you are or want to be, and a way to have fun. She is a true inspiration!”

A celebration of prints and textures, the collection features key items such as a jacquard suit with peapod embroidery, a voluminous frilled tulle jacket, versatile kaftans, and ensembles adorned with iris flower print. It also showcases a quirky and charming jewelry and accessories line inspired by plants, animals, and treasures from another world.

“When I design things I want to smile and laugh and feel happy. And I had fun with this collection,” Iris muses. “The pieces are playful, they’re filled with movement and color and joy and possibility, and that’s what style should be about. Glamor, fantasy, humor, whimsy—all of this is missing in modern life. We should bring it back. And where better to start than with your wardrobe?”
