BACOLOD CITY - The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) seized at least P3.3 million worth of poultry products, particularly dressed chicken and eggs, in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, March 2.
According to Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena, about 150,000 eggs worth P1 million were seized inside a van owned by an enterprise from Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.

The van was intercepted by the inspection team at the boundary of Barangay Tagukon in Kabankalan City and Mabinay town in Negros Oriental.
Aside from the eggs, four delivery trucks loaded with 11.5 tons of dressed chicken worth P2.3 million bound to Zamboanga from Iloilo province were also intercepted at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. (Bredco) port here on the same day.
Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson has recently issued an order for the temporary total ban of poultry products as well as all live domestic and wild birds into the province from all regions in the country amid the bird flu threat to protect the general public from the ill effects of the disease, and to also ensure the safety of the P8-billion poultry industry of the province.
The seized products and vehicles were shipped back to their places of origin as these could be carriers of the bird flu virus, according to Decena.
He said that owners were given notices regarding the matter, thus they are aware of the temporary ban on the entry of poultry products into the province.
The total ban oo poultry products into the province is in effect in the province until March 15, 2022.
