DOH reminds transport operators: Don't go beyond 100% capacity

The Department of Health (DOH) reminded operators of public utility vehicles (PUV) not to exceed the 100 percent capacity as this may cause the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases to spike again.
DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that the overloading of passengers in PUVs is a cause for concern.
Vergeire issued the reminder as 39 areas, including Metro Manila, were currently under Alert Level 1 and public transportation shall operate with full seating capacity.
“Ang isa sa nakita nating nakakabahala (One of the things we are concerned about) would be our transport sector. Mukhang bumalik po tayo dun sa pre-pandemic kung saan beyond 100 percent capacity po ang nakikita natin sa mga sasakyan na pampubliko (It looks like we are back to the pre-pandemic where we see that the capacity is beyond 100 percent in public transportation),” she said in an interview with ABS-CBN’s Teleradyo on Thursday, March 3.
Vergeire appealed to PUV operators as well as to the local government units (LGUs) to “maintain the 100 percent capacity.”
“Do not go beyond the 100 percent capacity dahil ito ay maaaring pagmulan ng mga sakit na naman at baka tumaas na naman ang ating mga kaso (because this may trigger the number of cases to rise once again),” she said.
