Sotto says he won't inhibit from Senate's probe on Comelec security breach
They are entitled to their opinion.
Thus said vice presidential candidate Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III to calls by elections watchdog ‘Kontra Daya’ that he and Senators Imee Marcos, Panfilo M. Lacson, Emmanuel Pacquiao and Francis Pangilinan inhibit themselves from participating in an investigation on reported security breaches at Smartmatic — the software provider of the Commission on Elections (Comelec).
‘’Kontra Daya’’ also said Imee should also resign as chairwoman of the Senate electoral reforms and people’s participation committee.
‘’They are entitled to their opinion but mine is different. Everyone should be involved to make sure elections are transparent,’’ Sotto said.
According to Kontra Daya convenor Danilo Arao, Imee Marcos should resign as Senate electoral reforms committee chairwoman out of "delicadeza" as he cited possible “conflict of interest” between her position and her brother's candidacy.
Former Senator Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is seeking the presidency. He is now leading the 10-man presidential race by a mile in numerous poll surveys.
Earlier, Imee disclosed there was a “security breach” on the system of Smartmatic — the software provider of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in the May 9, 2022 national and local election.
Arao said the matter should be investigated but appealed to Imee and other incumbent senators seeking posts in the May 2022 elections to inhibit from participating.
