The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) announced on Tuesday, March 29, that the death of American singer-songwriter Keith Martin was due to acute myocardial infarction or heart attack which was caused by atheroscletoric coronary artery disease or clogging of heart’s artery.
The QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) said Martin, 57, was found dead in his condominium unit in Barangay Bagumbayan, Quezon City at around 10:46 a.m. on March 25.
He was last seen alive on March 20 by a maintenance personnel who fixed a water leakage in his unit.
According to the police report, the occupants of the other units called the attention of the condominium’s property manager after they smelled foul odor coming from the singer’s room.
The manager said they decided to open the door of Martin’s unit when he did not respond after she knocked. They found the singer dead in his bed.
Martin’s former live-in partner went to the CIDU office on March 25 to give her sworn statement.
She said that the late singer visited their son on Feb. 2. However on March 12, he told her that he was experiencing stomach pain and was feeling ill.
Police said that Martin’s sister permitted his live-in partner to represent their family. The United States Embassy in Manila was also informed about the incident.
Police. Brig. Gen. Remus Medina expressed condolences to the late singer’s family.
“I also want to thank the people who immediately reported the matter upon discovery thereof. The case would not have been immediately acted upon without them,” he said.
