Oscars launch formal review of Will Smith-Chris Rock fiasco, condemns violent actions

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), popularly known as the Oscars, has started its formal review of the consequences that led actor Will Smith to slap Chris Rock at the 94th Academy Awards in Los Angeles, California Sunday.
This was reported by USA Today on March 29 as the Academy released another statement Monday afternoon.
"The Academy condemns the actions of Mr. Smith at last night's show. We have officially started a formal review around the incident and will explore further action and consequences in accordance with our Bylaws, Standards of Conduct and California law," the latest statement read.
On Sunday, the Academy tweeted that it does not condone violence.
Smith has already apologized to the Academy, while Rock said that he will not file charges against the best actor winner.
In a separate article by the New York Post, it said that Smith may be asked to return his Oscar trophy after his live onstage assault against Rock.
A Hollywood source reacted to The Post after the incident. The source said: “It’s basically assault. Everyone was just so shocked in the room, it was so uncomfortable.”
Reports said that the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the annual awards, has strict guidelines in its code of conduct.
