Taguig's weekly Covid-19 cases increase anew

Taguig City’s total weekly tally of new Covid-19 cases has increased for the third consecutive time.

In its weekly report, the Taguig City government announced that there were 312 new Covid-19 cases from March 18 to 24, or 45 cases per day, up by 36 new cases or 13 percent, compared to 276 recorded from March 11 to 17.

This is the third straight week this month that Taguig’s weekly total of new cases has increased. From 87 recorded from Feb. 25 to March 3, it increased to 148 from March 4 to 10, followed by 276 from March 11 to 17, and 312 from March 18 to 24.

The city government said of the 312 weekly total, 275 or 88 percent were reported late to the City Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Unit (CEDSU) while 37 or 12 percent were newly reported. As of March 24, Taguig had 35 active Covid-19 cases.

Mayor Lino Cayetano said Taguig’s Covid-19 cases “continued to stabilize, which means we can continue to open, continue to go back to work, go back to our livelihood, open our schools.”

He said the two most important things are vaccination and wearing of face masks.

The Taguig Safe City Task Force reported that from March 18 to 24, 258 individuals were apprehended for health and safety protocol violations of which 29 were issued citation tickets and 219 were warned.

The top two common violations were not wearing or improperly wearing of face masks, and not observing social distancing protocols.

The Taguig Safe City Task Force also reminded the public about the guidelines during the election campaign in the city.

It cited a rule issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), which states that “any person below 18 yrs. old or above 65 yrs. old, or with immunodeficiency, comorbidity, or other health risks, and heavily pregnant women are not allowed to participate in physical campaign activities” such as caucus, motorcade, rally, conference or any assembly.

It added that based on the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) guidelines under Alert Level 1, anyone who will participate in any election-related event needs to show proof of vaccination. All unvaccinated persons are not allowed to participate.
