Pangilinan insists on 'people's choice' of Leni-Kiko tandem; nixes 'mixed' ticket

Despite the snowballing support for a Leni Robredo-Sara Duterte tandem in Mindanao, Vice-presidential aspirant Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan believes he is still the rightful running mate of Robredo and no one else.

Pangilinan, who is currently in Samar with Robredo for a campaign sortie, questioned again the initiatives of politicians to pair Robredo with his rival vice presidential candidates.

“Papayag ba tayo na ang pinili ni Leni, ipapalit sa kung sino-sino? (Would you allow the one who’s chosen by Leni will be replaced by somebody else?),” Pangilinan asked the crowd during the Calbayog People’s Rally on Monday, March 28.

“Hindi (No),” the Samareños told Pangilinan in a reply.

The Leni-Kiko tandem began their three-day sortie in Samar and Leyte to court voters in Calbayog City, where they held a grand rally attended by 7,000 people in the morning.

Robredo has repeatedly dismissed the idea of hybrid tandems while she maintained Pangilinan is her only choice in this campaign.

Some politicians have pushed for Duterte to pair with Robredo, the latest of which are the local officials and candidates in Misamis Oriental and Lanao del Sur.

The RoSa movement is led by congressmen Joey Salceda and Rufus Rodriguez and Zamboanga City Mayor Isabela Climaco, citing the efficiency of Robredo and Pangilinan in delivering social services to the people, especially amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, who recently dropped Senator Panfilo Lacson and switched allegiance to Robredo, said his Partido Reporma is supporting Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III’s vice presidential bid.

“Palagay ko politiko ang nagmamaniobra dito sa mga (I think the politicians are maneuvering here in) cross-party tandem pero ang gusto ng taumbayan ay Leni-Kiko at ‘yan dapat ang ating isinusulong (but what the people want is Leni-Kiko and we should push for that),” Pangilinan said during a radio interview in Calbayog.

“Yung maniobra ng mga politiko parang gusto nila lusawin yung People’s Campaign. Ang taumbayan ang humiling kay VP Leni na tumakbo siya. At noong tumakbo siya at nag-desisyon, tayo ang kinuha bilang vice president, so andito na tayo (The maneuver of politicians is to dissolve the People’s Campaign. The people were the ones who requested her to run. When she ran, she picked me as vice president, so I’m here),” he added.
