Reelectionist Mayor Ponce tops election surveys in Pateros

Reelectionist Pateros Mayor Miguel Ponce III garnered the No. 1 spot in two surveys for the May 9 elections.

Ponce is running under the Aksyon Demokratiko party for his third and final term as mayor. He was first elected in 2016 and was reelected in 2019.

He topped the latest surveys conducted by Publicus and RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMD) in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Publicus announced the results of its Pahayag NCR Tracker Survey held from March 16 to 21 among 1,648 registered Filipino voters in Metro Manila.

Among the 17 local government units in the NCR, 100 respondents were asked in each of the 16 cities in Metro Manila and 48 in Pateros to choose their preferred candidate for mayor and vice mayor. The survey’s implied margin of error is plus or minus 10 percent for city results and 14 percent for Pateros.

In the Publicus survey, Ponce garnered 64.6 percent to place first, an increase from his first-place finish of 62 percent in the previous survey conducted from Feb. 18 to 24.

His rival, Marilyn Chiong, got 12.5 percent, up from six percent in February.

Ponce’s lead over Chiong is 52.1 percentage points, down from 56 percent in February.

For vice mayor, it is a very tight race between Carlo Santos, who is running the Nacionalista Party, and Ponce’s running mate, John Peter Marzan.

Based on the survey’s margin of error, Santos and Marzan are statistically tied for first place. Santos got 37.5 percent in the March survey, down from 40 percent in February, while Marzan received 35.4 percent, an increase from 32 percent last month.

Santos’ lead over Marzan is only 2.1 percentage points and the undecided voters totaled 22.9 percent.

On the other hand, RPMD released the results of its NCR Boses ng Bayan 2022 election survey conducted from March 15-21 among 10,000 registered voters aged 18 to 65 in the NCR.

The number of respondents was proportional to the number of voters per city and reallocated per barangay based on the number of voters. The margin of error was plus or minus one percent.

In the latest survey, Mayor Ponce got 87 percent to place first, an increase from 85 percent in the Feb. 22 to 28 survey by RPMD. Chiong received two percent, down from three percent in February. Ponce’s lead over Chiong is 85 percentage points.
